The history of the internet is not that old even in developed countries. The people of Bangladesh had to remain in the dark about it for a long time because of the non-availability of the service in this part of the globe. The main obstacle to start the service was to have data circuits to a suitable overseas location. However in this condition a few young talents started dialup e-mail service and made it commercially available for public use. In late 1995 the government of Bangladesh invited applications to subscribe the VSAT (Very Small Aperture Terminal) data circuits.

On June 4, 1996 the VSAT base data circuit was commissioned for the first time in the country. Upon VSAT commissioning, internet connectivity was established & its services were made available to the public. After internet was launched, the June 1996 National polls results were made available to the netizens of the world using World Wide Web. This was the first ever usage event of its kind in Bangladesh. The effort was appreciated in many corners especially among the Bangladeshis living abroad. After the introduction of Internet, the use of email increased exponentially owing to point to point direct transmission. Prior to it dialup links were used to communicate to an overseas e-mail server using international phone calls. The uploading & downloading of mails took place using UUCP (Unix-to-Unix copy).

The introduction of Internet did not instantly create a market. At the end of year, there were only two ISPs in the country and the number of users was close to one thousand only. The year 1997 recorded a tremendous growth. The total number of ISPs was more than a dozen and the clientele growth was ten times higher than that of the previous year. Afterward, a few new ISPs started their venture recording a proportionate growth in number of users. However, more liberal Government policies followed in the subsequent years which led to a rapid expansion of this industry, eventually resulting in over 180 registered ISP’s by 2005.

In 2006 Bangladesh got connected to the SEA-ME-WE 4 Submarine cable. After that, many ISPs found the opportunity to connect the submarine cable via Bangladesh Telegraph and Telephone Board (Now BTCL). This is the time when number of internet users increased by quite a big margin as bandwidth quality and price became affordable to general individuals. Over the years BTCL reduced the bandwidth price at regular intervals which attract more and more users towards the internet cloud.

Bangladesh – the wonderful country is visited by many foreigners each year and others even choose to stay. There are procedures to be considered to being expatriates or emigrants of Bangladesh that are pretty easy to follow. The country offers easy guidelines on how to live it well in Bangladesh.

The country also has a nice sub-tropical climate, which people from around the world love. Bangladesh is a very attractive country and working here, and to have the opportunity to work in this Asian country is truly a privilege for many.

Bangladesh is also colorful for their well-preserved culture, which is something new for foreigners coming from the eastern countries. But even so, it only takes a little time getting use to with country’s culture. After a just few days exploring the country will give one the idea of how to live like Bangladeshis.

Feedbacks from the expats living in Bangladesh are always positive. Mostly all of them love the country so much that they don’t even feel like working, but like tourists visiting the country. There are many foreign expats ho have even chosen to never leave Bangladesh for good. Expats brought their family along with them and got their permanent homes in the country.

Children too, adore the country very much. Expats having their children moved to the country never had a hard time liking Bangladesh. The Bangladeshis are really friendly people and quiet cultured, so they are never rude to their foreign visitors, but they love to entertain them. Bangladeshi children are exceptionally pleasant too. They are always brought up to be polite and courteous, which mirrors a true Bangladeshi manner.

Expats also will not only enjoy the country itself, but also the different customary celebrations of Bangladesh and most of all, the delicious Bangladeshi cuisine. The country is full of amazing things that people of any age and from any country would definitely relish.

There are already several expats living in Bangladesh. Most of them are just working here contractually, and there are others who already brought their families along with them and now living happily in the bright and colorful society of today’s world.

Bangladesh became one of the last large nation states in 1971 when it seceded from Pakistan. But geologists estimate that the area has been inhabited for over four thousand years based on archeological finds in the country. With this long history, the people and culture of the country is unique and rich. Everywhere you look in the country, you can see pictures of the people’s past. One of the first known events that happened in the area that today is called Bangladesh was in the fourteenth century, when the Bengal people were conquered by Timur. In the 1500s, Bobur, one of Genghis Khan’s descendants, conquered the land, bringing the Mughal Empire to the area. This stage in the country’s history brought Islam to the forefront of the religious mindset.

In the early 1600s the British East India Company built a trading post in Gujarat. The Company gained control of the area in 1757. Robert Clive, one of the employees of the British East India Company, eventually became the governor of Bengal. The East India Company ruled the area for the next 100 years. However, the British Crown took over the area in the Sepoy Mutiny, a rebellion that occurred in 1857. The country was ruled by Britain under a viceroy until the 1900s. Bengal was divided along religious lines in 1947. The eastern part of the area became East Bengal and part of Pakistan. The western area became part of India. Britain no longer controlled the country.

East Bengal, which later was renamed East Pakistan, never functioned well as a part of Pakistan. The people were not happy with being controlled by the Pakistani upper class. The Bengali-speaking population of the area signed a petition for autonomy in the 1960s, but the Pakistani government ignored it. Tensions mounted, until a huge cyclone destroyed the coast of the area in 1970. When the Pakistani government did not respond well, the people rebelled. After a long, bloody revolution, East Bengali won its independence and chose the name Bangladesh.

Sheikh Mujib was the first leader of the country. He was assassinated in 1975 after establishing socialist rule in the country. The three months after his assassination were bloody and confusing, but soon General Ziaur Rahman took power and established a multi-party government. He was also assassinated in 1981. He was followed by Hossain Mohammad Ershad, who ruled for eight years. After his reign, the current parliamentary democratic republic was established.

Bangladesh was once part of the Indian state of Bengal. East and West Bengal together was called Greater Bengal. In 1947, India became independent and a new country was created from the two parts called Pakistan where Muslims were in the majority. East Pakistan actually was East Bengal which is now Bangladesh. After a brief period of conflict with Pakistan, Bangladesh came into existence on 16th December1971. Bangladesh is a beautiful country of South Asia that has several of tourist attractions to explore. Bangladesh is well-surrounded by India on its all sides other than a small border with Myanmar to the outlying southeast and alongside the Bay of Bengal to the south. Due to its location, the Weather in Bangladesh varies in different seasons.

Bangladesh occupies part of the north eastern corner of the Indian subcontinent. It is surrounded by India apart from a short boarder with Myanmar and its 580 kilometre coastline. Most of the coastline is not continuous but broken up by the channels of delta. There are many rivers which flow through the delta and end up at the Bay of Bengal in the Indian Ocean. These rivers are the Ganges, Brahmaputra, Meghna etc. The Ganges and the Brahmaputra start in the Himalaya Mountains. In Bangladesh the Ganges is known as the Padma and the Brahmaputra becomes the Jamuna. These rivers drain about 2500000 sq kilometres of land. The land of Bangladesh is very flat and low. The highest point is the hills in the north east and southeast. About 15 percents of land is covered with forests. More than 75 percent of Bangladesh is less than 10 meters above sea level. Bangladesh is the largest delta in the world. The area of Bangladesh is 55126Sq Miles.

In Bangladesh about 35 percent adults are literate. Poor families cannot afford to let their children go to school so instead they work. Although primary schools are free, only about 80 percent of eligible pupils attend them. Only 25 percent of them will complete five years of basic education.

After having completed basic or primary education pupils start class 6 at high school and get their Secondary School Certificate after they have studied another 4 years.

Subjects include English, Bengali, General Maths, Additional Math, optional, Science, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Home Economics, Religious studies. Students need to study for two more years to get Higher Secondary Certificate which are the equivalent of A levels. In higher education a student must complete 2 years for ordinary graduation and 3 years for an Honours degree. Ordinary graduates need two more years for a Masters whilst an Honours graduate need only study for one more year.

Bangladesh is hot and humid during summer and cool in winter. During the monsoonal season, heavy rains take place in Bangladesh and sometimes cause the high-flood. The rains mainly come during the monsoon covering the months of June to September, and little in winter from the month of November to February. The Weather in Bangladesh is characterized by reasonably high temperature for eight months in the year with the maximum temperature in summer ranging between 30 C to 38 C, whereas the minimum temperature remains 9 C during winter.

Dhaka has been the subject of fascination with both travellers and historians in South Asia. The city has suffered a long, fractured and brutal history, witnessing the turmoil of Partition in 1947 and the creation of the state of Bangladesh in 1972, as well as the heartache of wartime devastation and a flurry of natural calamities throughout its past. However, Bangladesh’s capital still retains a distinct sense of heritage and cultural identity, referencing its eclectic historical background in every architectural corner of the city.

Dhaka formerly known as Dacca is city of the people’s republic of Bangladesh. The history of Dhaka goes back to the 7th century AD to Buddhist times, when it belonged to the ancient kingdom of Kamarupa; after this, it passed into the hands of the Hindu Sena rulers (9th century AD), Turkish, Afghan and Mughal governors, until the British East India Company took control in 1765. The British built latest educational institutions and public works, a modern system for supply of water in the year 1874 and introduced electricity in 1878. After Bengal’s partition in the year 1905 and the second partition again in the year 1946, Dhaka was made the capital city of East Bengal. On 15th of August, in the year 1947, the state merged into the newly fomed Pakistan.

However, the ethnic Bengali populace felt discriminated against by the central government, leading to public anger, and they declared Bangladesh as an independent state in March, 1971. In their turn, the Pakistan Army launched a counter operation, arresting and killing thousands of Bengali students, intellectuals and ordinary people. Finally the Indian Army marched into Bangladesh in December, 1971 and captured Dhaka, leading to the creation of a new, independent state of Bangladesh. The name of the city is believed to be derived from the temple dedicated to the Goddess Dhakeshwari, built by Raja Ballal Sena in the 12th century.

Dhaka, a city replete with history, lies on the banks of the Buriganga River. The old parts of the city lie to the south of the city centre, and this is where most of the tourist attractions are found. The old European area lies to the north of Dhaka’s old town; the Presidential mansion, the National Museum and Dhaka’s business district and diplomatic regions are located to the north-east of this part of the city. If you take a taxi ride into the suburbs you can visit the Dhaka Zoo and the Botanical Gardens.

Dhaka was famous from time immemorial for its fine muslin. Now, pink pearls and its rich variety of traditional handicrafts take pride of place. Shoppers will also find gold and silver products at amazingly low prices. New Market, Elephant Road and Dhanmondi are the best areas for shopping. Dhaka is not lacking in famous monuments from the Mughal era and these are a must visit. Lalbagh Fort was built in 1678 by the Mughal governor Nawab Shaista Khan. It contains a mosque, tomb, the Hall for Audience and the hammam. Ahsan Manzil Palace Museum is the former home of the Nawab of Dhaka; it has 23 galleries displaying paintings, furniture and articles of household use. Star Mosque is a beautiful, 200 year old mosque, famous for the thousands of stars which twinkle on its surface. You can see a large collection of antiques and sculptors from the Hindu, Buddhist and Muslim periods in the National Museum.

Bangladesh provides visitors with a rich history and unique cultural experience. The democratic republic welcomes guests that have the proper documentation, including a passport and visa. If you are planning a trip to Bangladesh, there are certain attractions that you simply must see. These attractions will make your trip worthwhile and give you a real sense of the people and nature that makes Bangladesh such a welcoming location to visit.

Since you will probably base your trip out of Dhaka, Bangladesh’s capital city, be sure to spend some time exploring its attractions. While in Dhaka, you will want to shop at the Dhaka Markets, where you can buy discounted clothing and leather goods. Be prepared to haggle on the price, though! The National Museum, National Zoo and Dhaka Botanical Gardens are all popular with Dhaka visitors. Be sure to visit the zoo, because it is the best place to see the country’s tigers up close.

If you would prefer to see nature in its natural habitat, visit Rejandrapur National Park, which is about 50 km to the north of Dhaka. This park is the perfect destination for birdwatchers, so be sure to take along your binoculars when you visit. Sundarbans National Park is another place that is popular with nature lovers. Here you can see Royal Bengal Tigers, spotted deer, birds, and monkeys in their national habitats. Sundarbans is the largest mangrove forest in the world, and you can take an organized tour led by the Bangladesh Parjatan Corporation if you visit during the winter months.
